Basket-making classes
Nathan Taylor, master craftsman and world-renowned scholar of Early American basketry, will set up a workshop right in Basketville this fall to teach his techniques. Nathan is highly entertaining. He loves to talk about his art and the history of basket making.
Let Nathan turn you into a crafter of your own heirloom baskets! He’s been teaching basketry for 25 years, and he’s developed a foolproof system that delivers success at every turn. Each class will focus on a specific historic style.
No experience needed, and Nathan provides all tools and materials for the classes. Whatever class you choose, the handcrafted basket you take home will have a unique value as a very personal family heirloom.
October 10, Saturday, 9am-5pm Cherrywood Nantucket Basket
Class fee $75
This is Nathan’s fanciest Nantucket-style basket. Just five inches in diameter, the basket is nonetheless a marvel of intricacy with a fine rattan weave. A grooved cherry base and cherry rims and handle enrich the design. Authentic hand-turned bone accents secure the swing handle. Use your finished basket to hold personal items – or treat it as purely decorative.
